Types of drawings (electrical)

The electrical drawings describe different aspects of systems and generally, the electrical drawings grouped to the related or similar elements of the different aspects.  This will include the following types of drawings in the same set of planes.

Types of drawings

General Supply

These drawings describe the electrical supply of the system and all the sub circuits derived from the main power and what they will feed. In these planes it is common to find items such as transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, magnetic protection (breakers), power supplies, three-phase power conductors etc.

Power

In power drawings power elements are shown, typically electric motors. Usually they contain items such as motors, magnetic-thermal protection, fuses, magnetic protection (breakers), contactors (starters), AC drives, servo drives, soft starters, three phase power system etc.

Control

Control drawings describe the system contact logic; sometimes this logic is destined to control the elements shown in drawings of power. Usually they contain elements such as buttons, switches, pilot lights, coils (valves or relays), open or closed contacts (relays or sensors) among others. The figure shows an example of a control diagram.

Inputs/Outputs

In systems containing controllers, input and output drawings are included. In the input drawings can be observed connections from the field to the controller, typically buttons, switches and contacts among others. In the output drawings can be observed connections from the controller to the field, typically coils, and pilot lights among others.

Supply

In these drawings are shown the elements that feed on the sub circuits described in the General Supply drawing, the elements that usually refers this plane are sensors, power supplies, operator interface, processors and others.

Network

In the network drawings are shown the connection of the nodes in different networks of the system.
